Abstract

EDM process includes non conventional machining which is applied in many manufacturing industries. The advantages of this machining chisel (electrodes) should not be harder than the workpiece, but it can drill complex workpieces and the results have high precision and accuracy. Performance EDM process is influenced cutting parameters, such at the voltage of the power suply, breakdown voltage, ignition current, and a dielectric fluid. The objective of the study is to know the characteristic of a dielectric fluid though performance of drilling process based on material removal rate. The study is conducted using machine of EDM spark generator type of relaxation in material of carbon steel with hardness 110 BHN, at the voltage of 12 volt and copper electrode. The conclucion of the study is that the voltage of 12 volt producing a minimum value of MRR 0,35 mm3/minute at NaCl solution of 0,05 % and maximum of 2,53 mm3/minute in 0,2% NaCl solution. The drilling implementation process of the workpiece EDM tool generates a minimum current of 2, 8 Ampere is NaCl 0,05% and maximum current of 5 Ampere at NaCl 0,2% flow.
