Uji Eksperimen Heat Treatment Baja Pegas Dengan Variasi Media Pendinginan Terhadap Sifat Mekanis
Abstract
In this study, the steel used was Isuzu elf leaf spring steel, the purpose of the study was to determine the effect of heat treatment on spring steel on mechanical properties. Using the method without going through heat treatment and through heat treatment, with a temperature of 850 °C with a holding time of 20 minutes, it was cooled using a variety of cooling media of water, salt water, and oil. Each cooling medium has a volume of 5 liters. From the test results of the chemical composition test on used leaf spring steel Isuzu elf, it can be seen that the carbon value is 0.586% so that it can be categorized as high carbon steel. After testing the rockwell hardness, the highest hardness value was obtained in the heat treatment specimen of salt water cooling media with a value of 63.3 HRC, and in the impact toughness test the highest value was obtained on specimens without heat treatment with an impact value of 0.024 J/mm² and an impact value. The lowest was found in specimens with water and used oil cooling media with the same value of 0.012 J/mm². It can be concluded that the leaf spring steel used by Isuzu Elf is high carbon steel and with a variety of different cooling media will affect the value of rockwell hardness and impact toughness on the specimen steel. Heat treatment specimens with brine cooling media have the highest hardness values. Meanwhile, the highest toughness value is found in the specimen without going through heat treatment.
