Abstract

The ignition system functions to produce sparks that are used to burn a mixture of fuel and air into highpressure hot gas, this occurs because of the compression that occurs in the combustion chamber. The

parts of the ignition system consist of CDI, Coil, and Spark Plug. The spark plug functions to ignite the

combustion of the motor, installed on the cylinder head. Spark plugs are an important component in the

vehicle ignition system. The purpose of this study was to examine how the use of spark plug variations

affects the performance of a 4-stroke motor. With an experimental research method using a

dynotest/dynamometer test. The results of this study are that the power generated by the platinum

spark plug increased by 0.7% compared to the standard spark plug, and the torque generated by the

platinum spark plug increased by 1.2% compared to the standard spark plug. Fuel consumption from

platinum spark plugs decreased by 4.7% from standard spark plugs. Based on the results of this

experimental study, it can be concluded that platinum spark plugs are able to create more optimal

performance, because their power and torque increased and fuel consumption was more efficient.
